Important COVID-19 message from the Australian Snowsports Industry…
Key members of the Snowsports Industry including the Australian Ski Areas Association, APSI, Snow Australia, Tourism Snowy Mountains and Tourism North East are regularly meeting to discuss the COVID-19 threat, share ideas and consider appropriate actions. The outcome includes the below statement and campaign messaging that we all need to do our part to #flattenthecurve to #protectOURseason.
The industry is united in its support of the important work health professionals are doing to protect Australians through the creation of an industry campaign that seeks to reinforce that we must all take every possible action now, to flatten the curve, protect lives, and our communities…and in doing so protect our forthcoming snow season.
Staying Connected
We want to remind you of the ways that you can continue to stay connected to each other, and engaged with our preparations for the 2020 winter season with many of us working from home.
Three ways to stay connected;
- Pick up the phone – make the effort to touch base personally with those you work with.
- Schedule ‘Teams’ meetings (or lunch date / morning coffee) where you can and turn your camera on!
- Recognise your colleagues – send an email, or ‘praise’ a colleague on Teams, say thank you and call out staff who are doing a great job in this highly challenging environment!

Keeping yourself healthy when #workingfromhome and/or #stayingathome is vital. Apart from the obvious aspects of personal hygiene and social distancing, what can be done to ensure good health in this time of isolation?
- For work; set up your desk for your best day at work.
- Get up and move your body! Go for a walk, stand up and do a few minutes of stretching (check out my quarantine routine below or get Snow Active with Snow Australia – join World Cup Ski Cross athlete Sami Kennedy Sim for a short strength and mobility session).
- Mindfulness is a key skill in keeping our mental health in balance particularly in times of stress. Pocket Mindfulness has some quick and easy exercises to bring you back to the present.
- For more tips and tricks for working from home, check out this article Lynanne Kunkel shared in her last email update.
Here’s a brief view of our family quarantine routine;
- Morning walk, or jog for 20 minutes
- Lunchtime bike ride for 20’ish minutes
- Afternoon sports circuits designed by our children; rope climbing, hula hoop skills, plenty of kicking and throwing, and of course some bouncing on the trampoline (who doesn’t love a good double bounce on the trampoline?)
These short sessions should (in theory) keep us sane, and ensure that we have quality family time.
What’s your coronavirus quarantine routine?
‘It’s OK to feel anxious’
Here’s an interesting article on how one professor in China dealt with disruption and fear surrounding him when required to work from home due to the novel coronavirus. ‘It’s OK to feel anxious’ living in uncertain times.

Happy Easter
While we know that this Easter won’t be like any that you have experienced before, we hope that you find the opportunity to disconnect, unwind and spend time with family, in person, or in the virtual sphere (have you seen the ‘HouseParty’ app yet?).
Stay connected, support one another, and ask for help if you need it. We wish you the very best for an enjoyable Easter break.
