Perisher New Employees

Get yourself ready for living and working at Perisher. Here are some of the key things to organise in the run-up to your arrival and during the first couple of days.

Living in Jindabyne

Most Perisher employees live in Jindabyne, which is the central hub of activity here in the Snowy Mountains. Jindabyne is a small country town with a local population of around 3,000 – but in the winter months, this number expands dramatically with seasonal employees and holidaymakers.

The town itself is compact and easy to get around, and the town centre is never very far away. You'll discover a variety of restaurants, cafes, pubs, wine bars, a supermarket, retail shopping, a cinema, medical centre and plenty of other services.

Winter days in Jindabyne can be chilly, especially when it's windy. Expect maximum daytime temperatures to be around 10°C to 12°C, while overnight minimums can be a bracing minus 5°C to 0°C – so remember to put on an extra layer when you go out at night!

Living at Perisher or Smiggin Holes

If you're staying in either Perisher Valley or Smiggin Holes (Smiggs), you'll be based right on the snow. There's always something happening, from pool competitions and comedy nights to parties, theme nights at local pubs and more.

You'll need to rug up a little more at night and good sturdy shoes are essential as the snow, once frozen, can be quite slippery. Girls, high heel shoes are definitely NOT recommended. You can put on your party clothes and throw your ski jacket over the top for the trek to the restaurant or pub.

Perisher and Smiggins offer limited shopping facilities. There's a small supermarket, post office, clothing retail shop and pizza restaurant in the Perisher Skitube building. The Perisher Centre has JAX Chargrill, Ski Rock Café, Bazil's Bar, Slopestyle retail outlet, Adi's ski-tuning centre, a jewellery store, newsagent, pharmacy, clothing retail shops and other eateries and coffee shops.

One of the major perks of working on-site is the handy access you get to the slopes and winter events held at Perisher – and it's also a very quick trip to get to work!

Food and Entertainment

Discounted meal specials run at a variety of places on most nights, while major band and dance party nights are held at The Station.

When you're ready to go home after a night out, 'The Brain Bus' takes a gold coin donation and provides safe travel to/from The Station and around the town.

During the ski season, Perisher turns into a winter wonderland, with many things to see and do and an ever-changing events line-up. Check out the events calendar and the entertainment calendar to make sure you don't miss a beat!
